About Occam
Occam Systems Limited supplies universities, colleges and private operators with software for managing student accommodation.
We commenced trading on 1st February 1998. During our first year we conceived PAMS, software for managing student accommodation. Occam is named after Occam's Razor which states "entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity".
In 2000 we acquired Syrex Limited and the Room Service software. That summer we launced a new version - Room Service 2000, also known as RS2000.
We grew rapidly - Universities and colleges recognised the advantage of working with a specialist supplier. They dropped their in-house or bespoke systems so that by 2005 we had 30 customers using our PAMS and Room Service systems. We were the first supplier to provide a solution for online applications, and the first to provide online contracts.
In 2005 we started work on Room Service.Net, using the latest Microsoft development tools. We designed a fully automated migration process to convert existing customers from RS2000. This new product was delivered to customers during 2006. Customers who buy Room Service.Net cite its user interface as the best in the market.
In 2006 we delivered a new suite of online products to revolutionise our customers' operations. Our 'self-service' applications eliminate considerable amounts of data-processing activities and save customers large amounts of money in printing, postage, packing and other related costs. We were the first supplier to offer an online arrivals module which lets students schedule their date and time of arrival.
Since then we have continued to design and engineer new products, such as those which let students complete an online induction process. We are constantly adding new features which extend our solution and help our customers improve their operations.
We have 59 customers, most of whom have implemented our self-service applications. 34% of the top 100 UK universities use Occam's software for managing their student accommodation.
Occam Systems Limited is wholly owned by Occam Technology Limited.
